Toshiba and Virage Logic Partner to Target High-Performance Systems For Networking and Communication Applications

FREMONT, Calif., April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Virage Logic Corp. (Nasdaq: VIRL), a leader in embedded memory, today announced the availability of its Custom-Touch(TM) Area, Speed and Power (ASAP) compiler in Toshiba's 0.15 micron standard logic process. Licensed by Toshiba, the compiler is production silicon-certified and available now through Virage Logic and Toshiba.

With the ASAP compiler, Toshiba customers can take advantage of the industry's first commercially available embedded memory compiler with speeds surpassing 600 MHz. Virage Logic's memory design approach takes full advantage of Toshiba's 0.15 micron process to provide a memory core with the most optimum performance achievable in the 0.15 micron process.

``Delivering innovative products to market quickly requires companies to partner with industry leaders in areas such as IP,'' said Krishna Balachandran, director of product marketing for Virage Logic. ``We are excited to extend our expertise in IP embedded memory cores with Toshiba's strengths in design and manufacturing.''

The ASAP compiler consists of three families: high density (HD), high speed (HS) and ultra low power (ULP). Today, the charter with Toshiba includes the HS compiler. Because of the success that Toshiba is having with the 0.15 micron HS compiler, Toshiba has recently licensed it for the 0.13 micron process as well.

``Through the partnership with Virage Logic, our customers now have access to high speed, reliable, embedded memories targeted at our 0.15 and 0.13 micron process technologies,'' said Mr. Kiyofumi Ochii, general manager, System LSI Design Division for Toshiba Corp. ``We selected Virage Logic to accelerate time-to-production for a new memory core that can be used in a variety of communication and networking applications.''

The ASAP compilers are also available for leading semiconductor foundries such as TSMC, UMC and Chartered Semiconductor with prices starting at $100,000 (U.S. list price).
